Sunshield Comparison Test 4.1.2
This week began on Monday the 20th with the group conducting the Temperature Comparison test for a Sun Shield placed within the front windshield of the reference vehicle against the cooling capabilities of the UUT. Results show that the sun shield is capable of rejecting heat for the about 1/3rd of the day so long as the windshield is actively in the path of sunlight. Despite this, the test vehicle consistently maintained a lower temperature and once the sun had reached a point in the sky that allowed it to have sunlight enter the car through the passenger doors of the reference vehicle, the temperature difference between the two began to increase. Had the orientation of the vehicle with the sun shield been altered such that the sun shield was not directly in the path of the sun throughout the day, it is reasonable to assume it's effects would be minimal.
Temperature data gathered from this test is also used to once again validate our 4.1.1 test spec of 130% above the ambient outside temperature with the maximum internal temperature of the Test Vehicle reaching only 127.97% above ambient.
Window Cracking Comparison Test 4.1.3
On Sunday the 26th, the group conducted the Temperature Comparison test for cracking windows of the reference vehicle against the UUT. Cracking the windows was done in relation to the vent visors of the UUT, that being that the front windows were cracked by 4 inches from the top of the vehicle and the back windows were cracked 1.5 inches. Results indicate that cracking the window does result in a lower expected temperature within the reference vehicle, but does not provide as much cooling as the UUT. At approximately 2:30pm, a shadow was cast on half of the front windshield of the reference vehicle reducing the exposure to sunlight of the reference vehicle. Despite this, the temperature within remained above that of the Test Vehicle.
Temperature data gathered from this test is also used to once again validate our 4.1.1 test spec of 130% above the ambient outside temperature with the maximum internal temperature of the Test Vehicle reaching only 115.16% above ambient.
This week the group continued to work on the report focusing primarily on Chapter 3 with contributions and troubleshooting performed starting to be written.
